I don't actually live in the valley, but I've heard nothing but bad things about it. I was there today and it didn't seem so bad. It's hot up there, though. I had already broken a sweat in Ikea, wondering which indecipherably named television stand/futon/dresser/desk/bathmat to buy and put together myself with those crappy allen wrenches they give you, when I went outside. 95! Dayamn.
So two days in the new place. Things are going along slowly, but seeing as how right now I'm in hour 47 of living here, probably not too bad. I had an arduous experience trying to get the power on, though. I had talked to the Electric Company, and they told me it was supposed to be on, but to check the meter out back. I did so and found it locked. After another fruitless phone call with them, I wriggled myself underneath the locked cabinet, found my meter and switched it on. Lux fiat. I was so excited that I went out and told some neighbors who were lounging by the pool that it was done. It wasn't until I got back to my bathroom that I saw my face was covered with soot, especially my nose, which was ink black. I must've looked like I had been at a street fair and had my face painted like a kitty cat. Poor pussy.
It's always darkest before they turn the power on.
The one thing that pisses me off is that I can't find a place with free wireless internet. All of my neighbors have passwords on their wireless, and I don't blame, because I'd do the same. I've had to settle for Starbucks, and their exorbitancy. Drinking all this coffee cuts down on my eating, though, so I'm saving money in the long run, right?
